On January 23, Woodville Elementary School (WES) challenged local emergency services to a friendly game of hockey.
The whole school community was invited to the afternoon event, which took place at the Woodville/Edon Community Centre. The WES team was made up of both Grade 6 and 7 students, who competed against Kawartha Lakes Paramedic Services, City of Kawartha Lakes Ontario Provincial Police, and Woodville’s very own Fire Department, Station 14.
Grade 6 student Avery VanSchaik shared, “It was the best day ever!”
In the end the Woodville’s students won the game, which was all thanks to Kindergarten teacher, Lydia Wilbur, who brought the idea of this friendly game of hockey from her previous school board.
“Teaching in Woodville has reminded me of the importance of community connection and taking a moment to recognize and include some important people in our neck of the woods,” explained Wilbur. “Later this winter, we will be planning another game as we celebrate our Grade 8 students in their final year at WES.”
